Showing up prepared for a tactical fitness event is about more than just being in shape. The right gear can keep you safe, improve your performance, and make the day more enjoyable. To help competitors, we have broken gear into a few key categories.
Required gear is the foundation of your performance. This includes your firearms, magazines, and ammunition along with the plate carrier or load bearing system you will use on the course. These items are essential because they directly affect your ability to move efficiently, transition between positions, and complete stages safely. For example, a properly fitted plate carrier allows you to carry necessary magazines without restricting movement while a solid retention holster keeps your pistol secure during dynamic movement.
Safety gear protects you and those around you. Eye and ear protection are critical any time you are near a firing line and chamber flags clearly indicate when a firearm is safe. Having a first aid kit close at hand including a tourniquet ensures you can respond quickly in case of an unexpected incident. These items are not just recommended they are essential for maintaining a safe training and competition environment.
Comfort and recovery gear allows you to sustain your energy throughout a long day of events. Access to shade, hydration, snacks, and comfortable seating gives your body the chance to recover between stages. Items like extra shoes or socks, a small fan, or light warm up equipment may seem minor but they help you stay fresh, focused, and ready to perform when it counts.
Range and maintenance tools make sure your equipment performs reliably. A range finder, spare batteries for optics, and basic cleaning tools keep your firearms accurate and functional. Taking the time to have these items organized and ready can save minutes or even prevent stage failures under pressure.
Media and documentation gear may not affect your score but it helps capture memories, track progress, and share your experience. A camera or phone allows you to record stages while a notebook can be useful for notes or strategy.
To make packing easy we have included a downloadable checklist at the end of this post. It organizes these categories and ensures you do not forget any critical items before heading to your next tactical fitness event.
