FAQ

questions people actually ask

the things that come up before someone signs up for a first event. if yours is not here, ask us.

Before you register

is a DEFCON event beginner friendly?

Yes. Most of our field started with no competition experience of any kind. Every stage is briefed before you run it, a range officer walks each competitor through, and workouts can be modified so you finish. Finishing is the standard, not placing.

Frequently asked questions

do I need to own a rifle and a pistol to compete?

message us before you write it off. plenty of people show up to their first event without a complete setup, and we would rather talk it through than have you skip it. email info@defcontf.com and tell us what you have.

I have never shot a competition. is this the wrong place to start?

it is the right place to start. most of our field started here. stages are briefed before you run them, a range officer walks every competitor through, and nobody is timing how fast you learn.

I do CrossFit or HYROX but I have never done anything with a firearm. can I do this?

yes. the fitness side will feel familiar. the shooting side is the part we teach. safety briefings and stage walkthroughs cover what you need before you handle anything live.

do I need to be in shape to finish?

you need to be willing to move for a few hours in Florida heat. workouts can be modified so you get through the stages. finishing is the standard, not placing.

where are events actually held?

TACFIT and two-gun matches run at Gun Craft Inc in Ruskin. Ruck. Shoot. Repeat. runs at Manatee Gun and Archery Club in Myakka City. Both have their own page with directions and drive times.

how do I register?

through PractiScore. every event on the schedule links straight to its registration page. events cap, so slots go before match day.

what gear do I need?

shoes you can run in, eye and ear protection, water, and your firearms with magazines and a belt. each event page lists the specific requirements for that format.

can I come watch before I sign up?

yes. email us first so we know to expect you and can tell you where to park.

where we run

Both ranges have a page with the address, drive times, parking, and where to check in.

still not sure?

ask before you talk yourself out of it. we would rather answer a question now than have you skip an event over it.

Or email info@defcontf.com.
