Gun Craft is a family owned outdoor range in Ruskin, open to the public, and it carries the busiest competition calendar in the immediate Tampa Bay area. Alongside our events it runs USPSA on the first and third Sundays, Steel Challenge on the second, and cowboy action on the fourth.
There are seven bays running out to 50 yards, most of them under covered pavilions. The floors are dirt, with cement pads under the pavilions themselves, so your footing changes depending on where a stage puts you. That shade matters more than it sounds like it should on a Florida match day, and it is part of why a TACFIT event works here. Restrooms are in the office. The range does not supply drinking water, so whatever you plan to drink, bring it with you.
The busy calendar is worth knowing about even if you are not entering our events yet. If you have never shot a match of any kind, those USPSA and Steel Challenge mornings are the cheapest reps you will find anywhere in the bay area, and they are at the same range you would drive to for a TACFIT event. Learning the range commands and how a squad works before you add the fitness half makes a first DEFCON event far less overwhelming.
Parking is through the gate and to the right. Do not enter the range itself before 8:30 AM.
For a TACFIT event, check in at the front desk and tell them you are with DEFCON. For a two-gun match, check in behind the building under the covered area.
Typical door to door times by road. They do not account for traffic, so give yourself a cushion on match morning.
This is the venue-specific part. The firearms, ammo, and gear requirements are set by the ruleset for whichever event you entered, and every event page lists them in full.
Read the ruleset for your event before you register, not the morning of. If you are unsure whether a piece of gear passes, ask us first. We would rather sort it out by email than turn you away at equipment check.
Or email info@defcontf.com.
we run at two venues. here is the one you are not looking at.
